How to use
Baycip (Ciprofloxacin) is taken orally, twice a day (morning and evening). It can be taken with or without food, as directed by your doctor. Unless told otherwise by your doctor, you should drink plenty of fluid while taking this medication. Do not take Baycip (Ciprofloxacin) with dairy products such as milk or yogurt, or with calcium-fortified juice. You may eat or drink dairy products or calcium-fortified juice with a regular meal, but do not use them alone when taking Ciprofloxacin. They could make the medication less effective.
 

Overdose
If you suspect an overdose of Baycip (Ciprofloxacin), you should contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
 
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.

Notes
While taking Baycip (Ciprofloxacin), you may feel dizzy or light-headed or actually faint when getting up from a lying or sitting position. If getting up slowly doesn't help or if this problem continues, notify your doctor.

Do not share this medication with another person (especially a child), even if they have the same symptoms you have.

Storage
Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C), away from light and moisture. KEEP THIS AND ALL MEDICATIONS OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

Precautions

Talk your doctor about your medical history, especially of:

• Seizures
• Brain or nervous system disorders
• Kidney disease
• Joint or tendon problems
• Liver disease
• Blood vessel problems

If you have any of these other conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take Baycip (Ciprofloxacin):

• A history of allergic reaction to an antibiotic
• Joint problems
• Myasthenia gravis
• Kidney or liver disease
• Epilepsy or seizures
• Diabetes
• Low levels of potassium in your blood (hypokalemia)
• A personal or family history of "Long QT syndrome"

Baycip (Ciprofloxacin) is classed by the FDA as pregnancy category C. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or become pregnant during treatment with Baycip (Ciprofloxacin). It is not known whether Baycip (Ciprofloxacin) is harmful to an unborn baby. Baycip (Ciprofloxacin) also passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby.

Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning booths or sunlamps. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors.

Drug Interactions
Before using Baycip (Ciprofloxacin) inform your doctor of any medication you are taking especially:

• Clozapine
• Corticosteroids
• Cyclosporine
• Glyburide
• Methotrexate
• Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
• Phenytoin
• Probenecid
• Ropinirole
• Theophylline
• Live vaccines
• Warfarin
• Phenothiazine
• Tricyclic antidepressants
• Isoniazid
• Theophylline

You should not use Baycip (Ciprofloxacin) if you are also taking Tizanidine (Zanaflex) or if you are allergic to Ciprofloxacin or similar medications such as:

• Levofloxacin (Levaquin)
• Lomefloxacin (Maxaquin)
• Moxifloxacin (Avelox)
• Ofloxacin (Floxin)
• Norfloxacin (Noroxin) and others

Before taking Baycip (Ciprofloxacin), tell your doctor if you have a heart rhythm disorder, especially if you are being treated with one of these medications:

• Quinidine (Cardioquin, Quinidex, Quinaglute)
• Disopyramide (Norpace)
• Bretylium (Bretylol)
• Procainamide (Pronestyl, Procan SR)
• Amiodarone (Cordarone, Pacerone)
• Sotalol (Betapace)

There may be other drugs that can affect Baycip (Ciprofloxacin). Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor.

Possible side effects of Baycip (Ciprofloxacin) may include:

• Upset stomach
• Loss of appetite
• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Headache
• Vision changes
• Dizziness

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur:

• Sunburn-like skin reaction

Contact your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but serious side effects occur:

• Seizures,
• Mental or mood changes,
• Numbness or tingling of the hands or feet
• Loss of hearing
• Easy bruising or bleeding
• Persistent sore throat or fever
• Irregular heartbeat
• Chest pain
• Stomach pain
• Yellowing eyes and skin
• Dark urine
• Unusual change in the amount of urine
• Unusual fatigue

Baycip (Ciprofloxacin) may cause swelling or tearing of a tendon, especially in the Achilles' tendon of the heel. These effects may be more likely to occur if you are over 60, if you take an oral steroid medication, or if you have had a kidney, heart, or lung transplant. Stop taking Baycip (Ciprofloxacin) and call your doctor at once if you have sudden pain, swelling, tenderness, stiffness, or movement problems in any of your joints. Rest the joint until you receive medical care or instructions.
