How to use
Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin) is taken orally, with or without food. You may take it with food if you experience a stomach upset. You usually administer this medication once a day unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this medication at approximately the same time each day. Continue to take it until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if you feel the symptoms have disappeared. If you stop taking Zithromax (Azithromycin) too early, it may allow the continued growth of bacteria, which may result in a relapse of the infection.

Overdose
If you suspect you have taken too much Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin), contact your local poison control center and/or emergency medical services immediately.

Missed dose
If you have missed a dose of Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin), take it as soon as you remember.  If it is nearly time for your next dosage, skip the missed dose, then resume your schedule. Do not attempt to double up on a dosage to make up for missed medication.

Notes
While taking Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin), you may feel dizzy or light-headed or actually faint when getting up from a lying or sitting position. If getting up slowly doesn't help or if this problem continues, notify your doctor.

Do not share this medication with others, since they may have a problem that is not effectively treated by Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin).

Storage
Store Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin) at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) and keep away from light and moisture. KEEP THIS AND ALL MEDICATIONS OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

Precautions
Before using Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin), inform your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to:

• Azithromycin
• Erythromycin (E-Mycin, Ery-Tab, E.E.S.)
• Clarithromycin (Biaxin)
• Telithromycin (Ketek)
• Troleandomycin (Tao)

If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dosage adjustment or special tests to safely use Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin):

• Liver disease
• Kidney disease
• Myasthenia gravis
• Heart rhythm disorder
• A history of Long QT syndrome

Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin) is classed as pregnancy category B by the FDA, which means it is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

It is not known whether Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin) passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not take this medication without telling your doctor if you are currently breastfeeding.

Drug Interactions
Before using Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin), tell your doctor about all medications you use, especially of:

• Aluminum- and magnesium-containing antacids
• Digoxin
• Live vaccines
• Lovastatin
• Nelfinavir
• Warfarin. 

Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin) may decrease the effectiveness of combination-type birth control pills. You may need to use an additional form of reliable birth control while using this medication. Consult your doctor for details. 

There may be other medications that interact with Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin). Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and medication prescribed by other doctors. Do not start or stop using any medication without consulting your doctor.

Possible common side effects of Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin) include:

• Upset stomach
• Diarrhea or loose stools
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Stomach or abdominal pain

If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor.

Inform your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur:

• Hearing loss

Also tell your doctor straightaway if any of these highly unlikely but serious side effects occur:

• Dark urine
• Persistent nausea or vomiting
• Severe stomach or abdominal pain
• Yellowing of the eyes or skin

This medication may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition (pseudomembranous colitis) due to a resistant bacteria. This condition may occur weeks after treatment has stopped.
Do not use anti-diarrhea products or narcotic pain medications if you have the following symptoms because these products may make them worse:

• Persistent diarrhea
• Abdominal or stomach pain or cramping
• Blood or mucus in your stool

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the above mentioned symptoms.

Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in oral thrush or a new vaginal yeast infection (oral or vaginal fungal infection). Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge or other new symptoms.

This is only a partial list and other side effects may occur. Notify your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any other side effects than the ones mentioned above, especially if they are bothersome.
